Botox in Walnut Creek

Our mission - We are here to treat YOU

Years of exposure to the sun, environmental toxins, and over-the-counter skincare products, combined with age, gravity, and genetics, can speed the visible signs of aging. While cosmetic surgery can help you appear younger, many people also enjoy great results using minimally invasive procedures, such as Botox® in Walnut Creek.

When you are considering an injectable treatment like Botox, speak with a skilled board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Seth Eberlin, to understand what to expect with the procedure.

What Are Botox® Treatments?

Botox® is a neurotoxin used on the face where multiple facial movements occur throughout the day. These facial movements can trigger dynamic fine lines and wrinkles, such as frown lines or laugh lines. Botox® injections weaken the small facial muscles to prevent worsening wrinkles. This allows your body to fill in the area with collagen. This softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It takes seven days to start seeing the results of the Botox® injections from our Walnut Creek practice, and it can last from three to nine months.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® is one of the most popular and well-known injectable neuromodulators. The medication is a derivative of botulinum toxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum.

Botox® was first approved by the FDA in 2002 for cosmetic use but was FDA-approved for other disorders, including excessive sweating, temporomandibular joint syndrome, urinary incontinence, neck spasms, and chronic migraines.

The neuromodulator works by temporarily preventing the body from releasing acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter that triggers muscle contraction. This reduces the intensity of the muscle contractions. When the muscles no longer fully move, the dynamic wrinkles become less visible. Botox® may help prevent existing wrinkles from worsening over time and can prevent new wrinkles from forming. Our Walnut Creek surgeon Dr. Seth Eberlin could answer any questions you may have about the Botox® procedure during a consultation appointment.

Where Are Botox® Treatments Done?

Botox® is most often used for the “11’s” or the wrinkles between your eyebrows as well as crow’s feet, and lines on the forehead. However, there are many other areas where a small amount of Botox® can be used to enhance your look. Areas that can be treated with Botox® in our Walnut Creek office include:

Forehead Lines

Lines that appear above the eyebrows and below the hairline. They are part of your facial expressions but can become permanent over time.

Crow’s Feet

Little lines that appear in the outside corners of your eyes when you smile. These lines can deepen and remain even when you are not smiling.

Glabella

This is the area between the eyebrows and above the nose, often referred to as “11’s.”

Fine Lines Around the Mouth

These are sometimes called smoker lines or lipstick lines and can appear even when you do not smoke.

Neck Lines (Platysma Banding)

Vertical cords in the neck that run from under the chin to the collarbone.

Chin Dimples

This dimple appears when the muscles begin contracting too much.

Botox® Lip Lift

Small amounts of Botox® are injected at the corners to relax the muscles and make the lips appear fuller.

Botox® Eyebrow Lift

Small injections smooth the forehead and elevate the eyebrows as the muscles relax.

Botox® Eyebrow Lift

Botox can be injected into the masseter (chewing) muscle to help alleviate symptoms of TMJ disorders, including jaw clenching and grinding.

How Are Botox® Treatments Done?

Botox® injections are sometimes called a lunchtime procedure because they generally do not take more than 20 minutes. During your consultation, your injector will discuss your concerns, goals, and medical history to ensure safety.

Your skin will be cleaned and the injector will mark the anatomical landmarks to ensure the medication is injected correctly. The actual injection takes approximately one to two minutes, depending on how many injections you receive. Once the Botox® treatment is completed, you can leave and go about your daily activities.

Botox® does not require sedation, pain medication, or anesthesia, so you have no activity limitations once the treatment is finished. Some people may have residual redness or bruising, which can easily be covered with makeup the following day.

How Can I Prolong the Results of Botox® Injections?

There are several steps you can take to prolong the results and reduce the potential that the medication could spread and paralyze a nearby muscle. Recovery from Botox® treatments that you receive in our Walnut Creek office is relatively simple.

Most people will have tiny bumps in the area where the medication was injected for roughly 15 to 20 minutes. You may also experience some mild bruising around the injection site. It is crucial to reduce the spread of Botox® to nearby muscles by avoiding strenuous activity and not rubbing the treated areas for at least four hours or doing anything that could apply pressure to the area.

For example, do not wear a tight hator scrub your face in the four to six hours after receiving an injection. Keep your hands away from your face, don’t apply makeup or wash your face, and don’t engage in any intimate activity that may place pressure over the treated area.

You can prolong the results by protecting your skin from sun damage, which accelerates the aging process and counteracts the benefits of Botox®. Use sunscreen SPF 30 or higher and wear protective clothing to maintain skin quality.

Consider supporting skin care products, such as those that contain retinoids, peptides, and antioxidants that support skin health. While these strategies can extend the effectiveness, the results naturally diminish over time. Regular follow-up treatments are necessary to maintain the desired effect.
